Frequently Asked Questions

When can I get the Camp Cards?

Units (packs, troops, crews) can begin to pick up Camp Cards for distribution to their members and families from the Scout Service Center (or through their district executive) starting February 1.  An online order form (coming soon) must have been submitted online to receive the order.

Where can I sell Camp Cards?

Camp Cards can be sold just like popcorn.  Think of creative places to sell them.

  • Store Fronts:  Grocery Stores, Hardware Stores, near vendors on the cards (if permitted)
  • Door-to-Door
  • Parent’s place of work
  • School
  • Church
  • Sporting events

Please remember to always have parent and location permission before selling.  It’s always nice to leave a thank you note as well!

When can I sell Camp Cards?

Camp Cards can be sold beginning when you receive the cards.  The sales money and unsold cards are due to the Scout Service Center by Monday, April 11, but each unit may want an earlier, internal deadline to be prepared.  Camp Cards can be kept to continue selling afterwards, but keep in mind that they cannot be returned and the discounts expire December 31, 2022.

What is my unit’s commission from sales?

Units will keep $4 (40%) for each card sold.  Any free camp incentives earned by Scouts will be above and beyond the unit’s commission.

How does my Scout earn the free camp incentive?

A Scout must sell the appropriate number of Camp Cards to earn the free camp incentive and be submitted by the unit on the Scout Report Form (coming soon) by Monday, April 11.  The incentive will be applied when the Scout is registered for the camp program earned.

My Scout wants to sell, but no one else in our unit does – what do I do?

The sale is ultimately a fundraiser for the unit.  With your unit’s permission, you can order cards as the contact person for the unit.  Be sure to tell the rest of your unit about the sale and maybe some more Scouts will join the effort.

Can I use the free camp for myself?

The free camp incentive is only allowed for the specific Scout that sold the cards and is not redeemable for an adult or other Scout.  How the unit’s commission is spent is a decision of the unit and can be used towards year-round program expenses or helping send adult leaders to camp.

Do I have to pay for the Camp Cards upfront?

No.  Final payment for all cards sold (and any fees on those cards returned) are due by Monday, April 11.  Units will keep the 40% commission earned when making their final payment.

Can I save a free camp incentive for use in a future year?

No.  Free camp incentives during the 2022 sale must be used in 2022.  In the unfortunate situation that the camp program is cancelled by Mountaineer Area Council, an alternative recognition will be provided to the Scout.

What if I run out of Camp Cards?

So long as Mountaineer Area Council still has Camp Cards remaining, units can continue to check out more cards as often as they need to while the sale continues.  Contact the Scout Service Center at 304-366-3940 when ready.

Is there a Camp Card return policy?

Returns of unsold Camp Cards must be returned by Monday, April 11 with the following conditions:

  • A unit may return up to 25% of their order.
  • Any additional returns after 25% will be charged a $0.50 per card restocking fee.
  • No returns will be accepted after Monday, April 11.

Mountaineer Area Council reserves the right to refuse product that has been damaged or rendered unsalable.  The unit is responsible for any un-returned cards (lost, misplaced, damaged, etc).  Be sure Scouts and parents treat each card as if it were a $10 bill.

Who do I call if I have questions about Camp Cards?

You can call your district executive, the Scout Service Center, or Matt Kirby as the campaign chair.  Contact information is listed above on this page.
