About Us
The Mountaineer Area Council, BSA was founded in 1928, and serves Scouts and Scouters in the twelve counties of Barbour, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Lewis, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Randolph, Taylor, Tucker, and Upshur and within North Central West Virginia. The council has units for all Scouting programs (Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Exploring) that participate in a variety of activities throughout the year.
The council camp, Camp Mountaineer, is just south of Morgantown, WV and encompasses over 1,000 acres of West Virginia foliage and fauna with sites and cabins available for reservations year-round.
The Council Service Center and Scout Shop are located in Fairmont (Marion County) with easy access to I-79.
Our council territory is located a just a couple hours north of the BSA’s newest national outdoor adventure property, the Summit Bechtel Reserve.
