Join Scouting

Welcome to the Boy Scouts of America!

Scouting is adventure, family, fun, character, leadership, and so much more.

In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best right now selves and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.

Mountaineer Area Council supports the implementation of the BSA programs in north central West Virginia.

Thank you to WVU Medicine Children's for being the 2022 fall recruitment sponsor for Mountaineer Area Council!

With a number of units meeting in most neighborhoods, there is sure to be an option that fits within your family’s schedule.

When compared to the cost of sports and many other activities, there is no doubt that Scouting delivers great value to its members! The annual registration fee to join Scouting is $80, with a one-time joining fee of $25. In addition, there are one-time uniform costs and nominal activity fees that may be charged by your local unit. Of course, these costs may be offset by unit fundraising efforts and other available assistance funds. Please contact your local unit leadership for details.

Since its founding in 1910, the BSA has guided young men and women of all abilities down their path to success.
